Umstritten ist nach wie vor die Frage, wo Kindesmisshandlung anfängt: während der Eine die Ohrfeige für eine gewöhnliche Erziehungsmaßnahme hält, verurteilt der Andere jegliche Art von körperlichen Übergriffen gegenüber Kindern. Gesetze darüber wurden erst in den letzten Jahrzehnten verschärft, wobei die Schwierigkeit in der Definition der Formen von (Kindes-) Misshandlung liegt.
Vielen Berichten zufolge sind Misshandler häufig in ihrer Kindheit selbst Opfer von Gewalt gewesen. Inwieweit diese Beobachtung auf die (Sozialisations-)Wirkung des „misshandelten Misshandlers“ zurückgeführt werden kann, soll u. a. in dieser Arbeit überprüft werden.
Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Thema „Misshandlung in der frühen Kindheit und ihre (Sozialisations-)Wirkungen“. Hierbei wird nicht Sozialisation als Ganzes betrachtet, sondern als Teilaspekt der Gesamtheit aller Umweltbedingungen, die auf die Entwicklung des Menschen Einfluss nehmen können. Es wird ausschließlich der Aspekt der Kindesmisshandlung durch die Eltern und die daraus folgenden Wirkungen behandelt. Bei der Betrachtung weiterer Misshandlungssituationen (Misshandlung durch Bekannte, Freunde, in der Schule etc.) würde dieses bereits sehr komplexe Thema auf allen Ebenen der Betrachtung um weitere Gesichtspunkte erweitert werden müssen. Es soll dargestellt werden, inwieweit Misshandlung in der frühen Kindheit die weitere Entwicklung des Kindes bishin zum Erwachsenenalter prägen kann.
