Dass die Geschichte hinter jedem dieser Kreditinstitute verschiedenen Ursprungs ist, ignorieren wir leicht, noch weniger ist uns zumeist bekannt, dass auch Struktur und Rechtsform jedes Institutes eine völlig andere sein kann.
Die vorliegende Arbeit möchte dem über 150 Jahre alten Weg der Volksbanken folgen, von der Gründung Schultze-Delitzschs bis hin zur Fusion von Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken im Jahre 1972. Hierbei soll besonders die Herkunft der Volksbanken detailliert beschrieben werden, um der besonderen Bedeutung dieser Bank als ein genossenschaftliches Kreditinstitut gerecht werden zu können. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt liegt in der Betrachtung des genossenschaftlichen Bankenwesens zu Zeiten der DDR. Wie hat sich dieses in fast einem halben Jahrhundert der Planwirtschaft verändert? Ist es nach dem Mauerfall möglich, eine Angleichung an westliche Verhältnisse zu schaffen?
