frühen Friedensbewegung. Dennoch blieb die wissenschaftliche Rezeption bis
heute erstaunlich zurückhaltend. So tituliert beispielsweise der Politologe und Germanist Theo Stammen die Fibel als „Stiefkind der Forschung“.1 Aufgrund
der bewussten Verbindung von künstlerischem Gehalt und politischer
Wirkungsabsicht wurde das 1955 erstmals publizierte Werk oft als
propagandistische Zweckliteratur verkannt. Mit meinen Ausführungen möchte
ich den Versuch unternehmen zu zeigen, dass Brecht mit seinen Text-Bild-
Kompositionen nicht nur ein herausragendes kompromissloses Werk gegen
den Krieg sowie seine vielfach politisch und ökonomisch bedingten Ursachen
gelungen ist, sondern auch ein ästhetisches Meisterwerk, welches es gekonnt
versteht, die Kunst zu lehren, Bilder zu lesen. Ganz so, wie es Brechts
langjährige dänische Mitstreiterin Ruth Berlau im Jahr Zehn der Befreiung vom
Hitler-Faschismus in ihrem Vorwort zur 1. im Ostberliner Eulenspiegel-Verlag
erschienenen Auflage erhoffte.2 Für diesen Zweck halte ich es für unabdingbar, sowohl die langjährige Entstehungsgeschichte der Kriegsfibel - die eigentlich Antikriegsfibel heißen müsste - als auch ihre endgütige künstlerische Gestaltung, in enger Verknüpfung mit dem gesellschafts-politischen Kontext jener Zeit zu betrachten. So erkennt der Literaturwissenschaftler und renommierte Publizist Welf Kienast den eigentlichen Gehalt der erst 10 Jahre nach ihrer 1. Fassung veröffentlichten Kriegsfibel als implizierte „zehn Jahre deutscher Geschichte samt Kapitulation, Staatengründung und 17. Juni“.3 Im weiteren Verlauf meiner Ausführungen möchte ich zeigen, wie sehr der erst 1955 abgeschlossene Entstehungsprozess die so oft zitierte Stunde Null, die Geburt zweier konträrer deutscher Staaten und ihre ersten Gehversuche reflektiert.
