Im Gabler Wirtschaftslexikon wird es folgendermaßen beschrieben: „ Ein Vertrags- bzw. normwidriges Verhalten eines Agenten gegenüber seinem Prinzipal (Agency-Theorie) aufgrund der Entgegennahme von Geld oder Sachleistungen durch einen Dritten, der sich davon Vorteile durch den Agenten erhofft.“
