Wenn dem so wäre, könnten die Journalisten in der Tat ein ungeniertes Dasein fristen. Längst in die Ecke des aufdringlichen und sensationslustigen Reporters gedrängt, strebt der Durchschnittsjournalist eher nach guten Geschichten denn danach, von allen geliebt zu werden. Die vorliegende Arbeit widmet sich ausführlich dem Image der Journalisten und versucht, die Ergebnisse bisheriger Studien zusammenzufassen. Zu Beginn soll der allgemeine Image-Begriff beleuchtet werden, ehe anhand der Allensbacher Prestigeskala ein Vergleich gezogen wird zwischen dem Journalistenberuf und anderen Berufsgruppen. Weit detaillierter als in Deutschland wurde das Journalistenimage in Österreich untersucht, daher finden auch die Ergebnisse der österreichischen Studien Eingang in die Seminararbeit. Auf Basis der Untersuchungen von Maximilian Gottschlich und Fritz und Matthias Karmasin wurde auch für diese Arbeit eine kleine Befragung durchgeführt, deren Ergebnisse ebenfalls vorgestellt werden sollen. Angesichts von nur 70 Befragten kann diese Untersuchung sicher kaum Anspruch auf Repräsentativität erheben, wohl aber ein gewisses Stimmungsbild aufzeigen und Ansatzpunkte für weiter reichende Studien liefern. Zum Abschluss der Arbeit soll untersucht werden, wie das negative Image der Journalisten zustande kommt, ob es nicht sogar schlecht sein muss, und wie es sich vielleicht doch verbessern ließe.
