About the Author
Susan E. Israel is an independent researcher, writer, and literacy consultant and currently serves as President and Director of Reading Alliance for Catholic Education in Indiana, where she works with small and large corporations to enhance literacy products. Her special research interests are in the areas of reading comprehension, writing, and child-mind development as it relates to literacy processes. Israel served as assistant professor at the University of Dayton, and in 2005 she was awarded the University’s Panhellenic Council Outstanding Professor Award. She has also served on the national faculty at the University of Notre Dame Summer Program, where she taught reading and language arts methods. A former elementary teacher, she was awarded the 1998 teacher-researcher grant from the International Reading Association (IRA). Having been an active member of the IRA for over a decade, she has served on a number of IRA committees and interest groups and recently was president of the History of Literacy Special Interest Group. In addition, she has been active with the National Reading Conference. Israel has authored, coauthored, or edited over 15 books and volumes and is the senior editor of the recently published comprehensive volume, Handbook of Research on Reading Comprehension (Israel & Duffy, 2008). Other recent publications include Teachers Taking Action: A Comprehensive Guide to Teacher Research (with Cynthia Lassonde, 2008), Reading First and Beyond (with Cathy Collins Block, 2005), Collaborative Literacy (2006), Shaping the Reading Field (2007), Poetic Possibilities (2006), and Quotes to Inspire Great Reading Teachers (2006).

Auch wenn ein Vergleich Unterschiede beinhalten sollte, möchte i ch diese nicht in meine Betrachtung einbeziehen, da sie offensichtlich sind, und sich größtenteils auf Formales beziehen. Wie ich später näher erläutern will, fühlte sich Grevisse in manchen Belangen seiner Grammatik nicht kompetent genug, weswegen er oftmals philologische Literatur zur Hilfe heranzog. Um dies zu stützen, aber auch um Gegenpositionen beider zu zeigen, werde ich im weiteren Verlauf näher auf den Strukturalismus eingehen, als dessen Begründer Saussure gilt, und sowohl seine als auch Grevisses Einstellungen zur Sprache und die diese umgrenzenden Themen verdeutlichen. Auch auf Biographisches soll reflektiert werden, um einen angemessenen Rahmen zu schaffen, und beide in ihrem Wirken zu zeigen. Hauptsächlich werde ich mich dabei auf die Bücher vo n Maria Lieber:Maurice Grevisse und die französische Grammatikzur Geschichte eines Phänomens.Bonn: Romanistischer Verlag, 1986 und Peter Prechtl:Saussure zur Einführung.Hamburg: Junius, 1994 sowie einige Einführungen zur französischen Sprachwissenschaft beziehen.

Anders als im Buddhismus, in welchem Buddha als Arzt auftrat und seinen „Patienten“ Medikamente in Form von Kräutern (und den daraus gefertigten Extrakten) verschrieb, sowie natürlich auch die buddhistische Lehre, die zur Heilung beitragen soll, trat Jesus als Heiler auf. Da ein Arzt die Kranken auch von ihren Gebrechen heilt, muss es sich wohl lohnen, diesem näher nachzugehen:

Die buddhistische Vorstellung von „Arzt“ kommt der hypokratischen Bezeichnung eines Arztes wohl am nächsten, obgleich die Vorstellung von Ärzten im Buddhismus einige Schritte über die des Hypokrates, wenn man dies so sagen kann, hinausgeht. Im Gegensatz dazu, wie bereits erwähnt wurde, bezeichnet man, und Jesus sich selber (soweit man dies aus den biblischen, wie auch den apokryphen Schriften herauslesen kann) nicht als Arzt, sonder eben als Heiler, der die Kranken in dem Sinne „heilt“, als dass er sie völlig ohne ärztliche Hilfsmittel, wie z.B. Kräuter, von ihren Leiden befreit. Dies könnte man, und wird auch als Wunderheilung bezeichnet.

So wurde Jesus selbst auch nicht von denen, die er wieder „gesund machte“, als Arzt bezeichnet. Von Ärzten wird in den überlieferten Texten sogar eher abfällig, kritisch und sogar ironisch gesprochen: „Arzt, hilf dir selbst!“ (Lk. 4,23) Das Wörtchen „Heil“ bedeutet im biblischen Sinne aber nicht unbedingt ein, oder das körperliche Wohlbefinden des Individuums, sondern vielmehr die „Erlösung und Rettung der Menschen durch Jesus Christus“. Die Lehre davon beizeichnet man innerhalb der Theologie als Soteriologie.

Da die Bedeutung und der Wert von „Kultur“ jedoch lediglich im Unterhaltungs- und Freizeitbereich gesehen wird, steht sie dabei fast immer an erster Stelle. Verkannt wird dabei, welchen Beitrag kulturelle Bildung bei der Persönlichkeitsentwicklung des Menschen leistet. Gerade deshalb ist es wichtig, vor allem den Bereich der Kinderkulturarbeit zu unterstützen und zu fördern.

Der Begriff „Kultur“ ist eng mit der Menschheitsgeschichte verknüpft und taucht in den ver-schiedensten Wortbedeutungen nebeneinander auf. Somit ist Kultur integraler Bestandteil unse-rer Lebenswelt und umfasst alle Bereiche des menschlichen Lebens.

Wird der Kulturbegriff auf der Ebene der individuellen und gruppenspezifischen Bildung und sozialen Beziehung verstanden, muss der „Kunst-Kultur“ mit ihren Bereichen bildende Kunst, Musik, Dichtung usw. eine besondere Bedeutung beigemessen werden, denn Kunst hat Kultur- und Bildungsfunktion. Kunst und Kultur sind neben persönlichkeitsbildenden, integrativen und sozialen, auch grenzüberschreitende Kräfte. Der junge Mensch soll auf das Erwachsenenleben vorbereitet werden und sich als reife und selbstbewusste Persönlichkeit an der Entwicklung und Gestaltung seiner Umwelt beteiligen. Er soll sich dennoch in sein Umfeld einfügen können und Toleranz gegenüber seinen Mitmenschen zeigen, sowohl im unmittelbaren Umfeld als auch auf internationalem Gebiet.

Hauptziel dieser Hausarbeit ist, den Wert von Kultur an sich und in diesem Zusammenhang die Notwendigkeit deren Förderung im Rahmen vor allem von Kinder- und Jugendkulturarbeit, zu verdeutlichen, wo die Zuständigkeiten und damit auch möglicherweise persönliche unterstützende Eingriffsmöglichkeiten zu suchen sind. Dabei macht die Betrachtung der aktuellen Ausgabenentwicklung des Bundes und der Länder ein Nachdenken über andere Finanzierungs- bzw. Fördermöglichkeiten auf dem Gebiet der Kinder- und Jugendkulturarbeit nötig.

About the Author
An independent scholar, James L. Haley is the author of fourteen books, including award-winning books on Texas history. Among them are Passionate Nation: The Epic History of Texas and Sam Houston, winner of nine historical and literary awards. Haley’s book Wolf: The Lives of Jack London won the Western Writers of America’s Spur Award for Best Biography. He has also written several novels.

Must-have for every Texas appellate lawyer, jurist, or SCOTX enthusiast

James Haley has done a masterful job of crafting a thorough, entertaining, and accessible narrative history of the Texas Supreme Court. Because this is only the second such attempt since Harbert Davenport's somewhat wooden chronicle of the Court in 1917, Haley's achievement is all the more notable.

Far from a dry chronicle of the Court's jurisprudence (which has been ably tackled in the professional literature), Haley's recounting reveals the character of and the challenges faced by the men and women who have served the Court in the 150 years from the establishment of the Republic in 1836 to the State's sesquicentennial in 1986.

I highly recommend this work to both the Texas appellate judiciary and bar, as well as anyone interested in Texas history!

A must-read for history buffs and Texana fans!

This new history of the Texas Supreme Court has it all--great stories backed by solid research, written in a narrative style that both entertains and informs. The story of the Court in the early days of the Texas Republic was particularly fascinating--even under harsh frontier conditions, the judges were able to create a legal environment that was remarkably progressive. The Court's treatment of slaves and free blacks in the antebellum period, for example, is shown be far more sympathetic than that of most other Southern states. Haley reveals other surprises as he moves through the Court's history, including some rich behind-the-bench stories of justices with penchants for mischief. It's an altogether good read and a great addition to my collection of history books.

Im Jahr 2004 setzten in Deutschland 84% aller Unternehmen, über alle Branchen und Unternehmensgrößen hinweg, Computer in ihren Geschäftsabläufen ein. Im Jahr 2003 belief sich die Zahl auf 80%. Und es ist mit einem weiteren Anstieg zu rechnen. Viele zukünftige Einsatzbereiche sind heute erst Visionen, die sich jedoch morgen schon verwirklicht haben könnten. Ein Bereich, der heute schon stark genutzt wird, dessen Bedeutung in Zukunft aber weiter rasant anwachsen wird, ist das Internet. In den letzten Jahren ist die Zahl der User stetig angestiegen. 95% aller Unternehmen ab 10 Beschäftigten in Deutschland hatten im ersten Quartal 2004 einen Internetzugang. Allgemein wurde festgestellt, dass der Anteil der deutschen Bevölkerung zwischen 16 und 74 Jahren, der im Jahr 2004 das Internet regelmäßig, also mindestens einmal pro Woche, nutzte, bei 50% lag. Zum Vergleich: im Jahr 2003 lag die Quote bei 44%. Für die Unternehmen sind diese wachsenden Zahlen dahingehend von Interesse, dass im ersten Quartal 2004 43% aller Internet nutzenden Personen das Internet zum Kaufen bzw. Bestellen von Waren und Dienstleistungen verwendet hatten. Und auch hier ist ein weiterer Anstieg zu erwarten. Die Gartner Group prognostiziert, dass in Zukunft rund 7% aller Verkaufstransaktionen über das Internet abgewickelt werden. Das entspricht einem geschätzten Wert von 7,3 Billionen US-$ weltweit. Bei einer solch starken Frequentierung des Mediums Internet ist die Präsenz im Internet ein wichtiger Schritt, um wettbewerbsfähig zu bleiben. Aus diesem Grund ist der Anteil an Unternehmen mit eigener Homepage vom Vorjahr auf 2004 von 40% auf 59% deutlich angestiegen, wobei es natürlich zu Schwankungen unter den Unternehmen, in Abhängigkeit von Größe und Branche, kommt. Auch andere Software-Systeme finden in der Geschäftswelt immer häufiger Verwendung. Ein gutes Beispiel hierfür sind integrierte Softwarelösungen, die eine nahezu vollständige Vernetzung aller relevanten Unternehmensbereiche untereinander darstellen.

Diplomarbeit aus dem Jahr 2005 im Fachbereich Medien / Kommunikation - Film und Fernsehen, Note: sehr gut, Universität Wien (Institut für Theater-, Film- und Medienwissenschaften), 70 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In der vorliegenden Arbeit sollen zwei Themengebiete vereint werden, die einen wichtigen Bestandteil der Kultur Indiens ausmachen: Auf der einen Seite die uralten Mythen des Landes, die vor allem aus dem Ramayana und Mahabharata stammen und fest im Kulturgut verankert sind, und auf der anderen Seite die populären Hindifilme, deren Stoffe mitunter bereits einen ganz ähnlichen Status besitzen und deren Helden und Geschichten selbst zu einer neuen Art der Mythologie geworden sind und bisweilen ins allgemeine Gedankengut übergehen. Der Kult um die Filmstars ist in Indien derart übermächtig und allgegenwärtig, dass dieser Vergleich durchaus gerechtfertigt scheint. Die Götter der Leinwand sind omnipräsent und überlebensgroß blicken sie den Menschen auf Indiens Straßen von riesigen Plakatwänden entgegen.

Die Mythologie Indiens soll als omnipräsente kulturelle Konstante gezeigt werden, die in der Gedankenwelt Indiens fest verankert ist. Im Film gibt es eine Reihe von Charakteristika, deren Einfluss aus der Welt der indischen Mythologie stammt. Diese Einflüsse sollen in Folge erläutert und an Filmbeispielen analysiert werden. Obwohl das Genre des mythologischen Films in den fünfziger Jahren des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts praktisch ausgestorben ist, wurden viele Merkmale des mythologischen Filmes in das populäre Kino übernommen.

Das mythologische Material soll als Einfluss auf die Geschichten, die Erzählweise, die Figurenzeichnung und als Schlüssel zum Verständnis und zur Interpretation gezeigt werden. Auch der Film Indiens, seine Stars und Sternchen als ganz neue Mythologie, sollen nicht unerwähnt bleiben. Schlussendlich wird am Beispiel der 1990er Jahre aufgezeigt, wie mythologisches Material durch ideologische Manipulation politisch verwendet werden kann. Dies soll an der populären Filmlandschaft Indiens jener Zeit erläutert werden.
